Flag of St Lucia Details

The flag of St Lucia is made up of the colors white, black, gold and cerulean blue. Cerulean blue symbolizes fidelity. It also reflects the tropical sky, as well as the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Gold represents sunshine and Caribbean prosperity.

The black and white on the flag represents two races living and working in unity. The black stands for the black culture while the white stands for the white culture.

In St Lucia, Negro culture dominates that of Europe. The flag is designed in such a way that it impresses that dominance. As can be seen in the picture, the triangles are superimposed on one another, the black on the white, and the gold on the black.

The triangles represent St Lucia's famous twin Pitons, located in the southwestern district of Soufriere. (By the way, these twin Pitons recently attained World Heritage Site status.) The St Lucia flag is designed in such a way so as to demonstrate how these magnificent Pitons rise out of the sea towards the sky. They are also a symbol of hope and the aspirations of St Lucians.

According to St Lucian law, the flag of St Lucia should be flown from public buildings only between the hours of 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. However, on important ceremonial occasions, it may be flown in the open after 6:00pm. In such situations it should be floodlit.

The St Lucia flag was designed by Famous St Lucian artist Dunstan St Omer.
