Tasty Banana In St Lucia
Is It Good For Your Health?

The banana is St Lucia the main export product and the second largest income earner for the Island. It is also the second most consumed fruit in the world.

This is the most popular fruit in St Lucia and you can find vendors all over the island selling it. There are several vendors in the city of Castries that only sell this remarkable fruit.

When they are Green, they mostly consist of starch. It is converted in the body as glucose and fructose which are sugars. When it is properly cooked, it can become a very delicious meal. This is the main food used in the national dish of St Lucia called the green fig and salt fish.

Other way to eat it is to slice it up and fry them to make fries with it instead of the normal potato fries.

It has become very popular for its rich potassium content. Potassium is very good in the diet because it helps regulate the sodium in our bodies which could lead to several diseases such as hypertension, cancer and stroke. It is also rich in other mineral such as magnesium and iron.

What most people don’t know about this fruit is that it has high levels of Vitamins B1, B2, E and C. It is also interesting to note that eating about three normal sized ones will provide the recommended amount of vitamin B6 for an adult man.

Vitamin E helps to maintain health skin and hair while vitamin C helps against the fight of several diseases including the common cold.

When ever I buy them, I usually go for the doted ones because they taste better and are so much sweeter. They are really cheap in St Lucia and usually sell for about 25c each at normal size.

Personally I have experienced that when ever I have an acid reflux attack, eating a ripe banana always helps to soothe my stomach and esophagus.
