Gros Islet St Lucia

Gros Islet St Lucia is a little fishing village to the northern most part of the island. Being there puts you close to many of the islands activities and infrastructure such as water sports, snorkeling, hotels and the Ultra modern Beausejour Cricket Grounds, where several matches of the world cup cricket 2007 was held.

What Made Gros Islet Popular

The village has gotten very popular for its Friday nights street jams. Every Friday night people come out by the hundreds or maybe thousands to the street party.

It is enjoyed by both locals and tourist alike. The street party has been going on for the past few years. It may be because of its success, that’s why it has been going on for so long.

This is a social gathering where you find large loud speakers placed at the intersection playing all sorts of music like soca, hip hop and reggae being played at super high volumes while certain people dance to the rhythm of the music while others feast on local dishes.

The Locals

Many persons who live in the village are generally fishermen and the street jam serves as a way to market their catch and also an extra income generator for the people. If you are staying in a hotel close by, going to the street party is one other ways of enjoying your stay in St Lucia.

You can still find many old wooden houses there today. Although it is under developed, and most of the people seem to live close to poverty line, you can hardly see a set of people anywhere in the world happier than they are.

Eating At Gros Islet St Lucia

You will find food at very cheap prices there. Every Friday night, barbeque grills come out on every street with a variety of meats, chicken, fish and conch. The conch shell is later used by fishermen as a horn to inform people of the catch of the day.

If you are looking for somewhere to mingle with locals and have a good time, then the Gros Islet street jam provides you with that opportunity.

On a normal day, you will find a few restaurants open selling local meals. That is a very good option if you are visiting the near by beach.

For Your Business Needs

You might be coming here on business and wondering if you will be able to get what you want at here, it may interest you to know that there are a variety of business facilities there.

Some of what you can find there are banks, Hotels, restaurants, car rental companies, laundry marts, supermarkets and conferencing facilities.
