Welcome to the Picturesque
Soufriere St Lucia

Soufriere St Lucia was once the capital. On the night of 9th June 1955, more than half of the town was completely destroyed by fire. It still remains unknown as to the cause of the fire, although it is speculated to have come from a two storey wooden house where a pot was left unattended. The town still resembles the way it was 50 years ago.

Soufriere

Soufriere St Lucia is the town I was raised in. I never realized how beautiful and picturesque it was while I was growing up, but then again, when you are a kid you never really realize nor appreciate anything. It is normally said that you never miss the water till the well runs dry, I’m happy I still have the time to appreciate it.

Soufriere attracts a total of 100,000 visitors a year and is believed to have the potential of being the most sought after place in the world. With the only drive in volcano in the world, its majestic twin peaks, waterfalls, nature tour site and the rain forest where our national bird, the Amazona versi color lives, it is no wonder why so many tourists come to St Lucia just to visit Soufriere St Lucia.

This place is cherished by both visitors and locals. I can still remember when I was a little boy how we always competed to see who could draw the best pitons in art class. There is still evidence of the pride that the people of Soufriere take in their natural surroundings especially in the way they talk about it.

You can also find hotels, guess houses and restaurants in Soufriere. Scuba St Lucia which is the best scuba diving company on the island is also located there at the Anse Chastanet hotel. With so many things to see and do here, why not bring along your camera to capture those magical moments spent here.
