St Lucia food and rum festival has many admirers, because it is the only festival of its’ kind that is as beloved among chefs and food critics alike. Not to mention, the people who just love good St Lucian and international cuisine. The festival is a four days long activity will be held from January 15-18, 2009 at the Pigeon Island Causeway in St. Lucia Two thousand and nine (2009) brings the St Lucia food and rum festival to its third year of existence.
If the way to your heart is through your stomach, like me, then this festival is for you. Then again, I know that everyone loves good food. This is really the kind of festival for the people whose hearts are truly in their stomachs. The whole aim of the festival is to highlight Caribbean food and Caribbean rum, which is now, recognized globally. St Lucia has several kinds of agricultural produce and it was felt that enough was not being done to showcase that, although all the hotels use the produce to cater to their guest. On those days you will find many mixologist showing off their art of creating new drinks; most of them have won several rum competitions internationally. TO see them at work is outrageous. It is like what you see in the movies, if anything it is entertaining. Well I don't drink alcohol so I can't tell you what it taste like, but judging from the response that they receive, I can tell that is has to be good. There will be many dishes prepared by some of the top chefs from some of the hotels and restaurants on display as well as many dishes from some of the worlds most well renowned chefs. Two thousand and seven (2007) host a number of these chefs and bartenders from around the world and this time is no different. This festival has truly showcased St Lucia as a gastronomical destination. My only advice is that you start making plans to come to St Lucia next year to the 2009 St Lucia food and Rum Festival. You can subscribe to our rss feed or newsletter so you can know when, where and who are the chefs and bartenders that will be hosted in the 2009 festival.
