It seems that most of the villas and hotels have limited or no air conditioning. Is it really comfortable without?

I am sorry but someone has given you misleading information with regards to to St Lucia weather condition.
Firstly, the rainy season begins on the first of June and not at the end of May. There are instances where you may get some rain but never so much rain that a hotel would have to close down.
The hotels in St Lucia remain open even through out the times when a hurricane is most likely to occur. It would be good to note that St Lucia has not had a hurricane since 1980. That is 29 years ago.
For this year (2010) we have not had any rain except for a some drizzle which take place at nights.

This is a somewhat sarcastic response. I simply want to know at what point the rainy season really begins and if coming at the end of May is not the best time.
Staying indoors to get out of the rain and closing down a hotel for the season in anticipation of rain are entirely two different matters.
